SOAP Method

Take It Deeper

There are many methods of Bible study to seek and understand, and it’s important to find methods that seek truth and application in Scripture and that works for you. A method we often use at Calvary is called SOAP, and stands for Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer. You can do these four things in prayer, in a journal, out loud, with a small group, with a spouse, with a friend – whatever works for you!

S for Scripture

Open your Bible to the reading found under today’s date. Take time reading and allow God to speak to you, don’t rush. Look for ONE verse that particularly stands out, and write it out.

O for Observation

What do you think God is saying to you in this Scripture? Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and reveal Jesus to you. In your own words, record the context of the passage.

A for Application

Personalize what you have read, by asking yourself how it applies to your life right now. Write how God is showing you this Scripture can apply to you today. How will you be different today because of what you have just read?

P for Prayer

Don’t be worried about getting the words right, just get your heart right! Be sure to listen to what God has to say!
